Baeza (together with Úbeda) have been declared by the UNESCO “World Heritage Sites” http://ubedaybaezaturismo.com/ For Morean scholars the city offers other appeals. The University of Baeza (Universidad de Baeza) was established in 1538, by a papal bull of Paul III. Its first rector was San Juan de Ávila. After successfully fending off an attempt in 1585 by the Augustinians to establish a rival university, Pope Urban VIII granted it the status of a pontifical university (1630) and lasted until 1824. The surviving university building was built in 1595.

Furthermore, we are proud to announce that a relic of St. Thomas More is preserved at the Parroquia del Salvador de Baeza, in the custody of the Real Cofradía del Santísimo Cristo de la Columna y María Santísima de la Salud, Amargura y Esperanza, “Nuestra Señora de las Lágrimas” de Baeza.
